5 Amazing New Releases

Writer: JennaJenna

Hey everyone! For my first post, I am going to list some really good books I have read recently that came out in the past couple of years. They have had me reading chapter after chapter, waiting for the next plot twist. Please let me know if you enjoy them! I’m really excited to start this blog and share my love of reading with you guys. 1. Heart of Flames by Nicki Pau Preto (Fantasy)

In this sequel to Crown of Feathers, you are constantly questioning the loyalty of every character, especially the sister of the protagonist, Veronyka. Suspenseful and intriguing, this novel puts you in the shoes of Veronyka, and her dream of becoming a Phoenix Rider becomes your own. Secrets are revealed that change the whole course of the book, a friendship changes to a fiery romance, and dreams are changed to legacies. Read Heart of Flames to watch Veronyka defy the stereotypes and follow her dream!

2. Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli (Realistic Fiction)

When I saw this book was about political canvassing, I almost didn't read it. That sounds really boring compared to its action packed fantasy and science fiction competitors, but I actually really enjoyed it. Yes No Maybe So is the story of two teenagers, Maya and Jamie, and how canvassing has given them a new perspective and also affected their relationship with each other in a positive way. Told through alternating perspectives, this book reveals the countless hours that are put into getting someone to vote for a senator while enthralling you with the romance that is happening behind the scenes.

3. Legacy by Shannon Messenger (Fantasy)

Okay, I have to admit that this book is kind of hard to write about. It is in fact the eighth book in Shannon Messenger's Keeper of the Lost Cities series so I'm trying not to give too much away. Overshadowed by Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, I hadn't even heard about this series until a few months ago; however, it is easily the best series that I have ever read. In Keeper of the Lost Cities, a girl named Sophie finds out she is actually an elf and is pulled into the elven world by a handsome boy with teal eyes. You will find yourself quickly falling in love with Sophie and her friends and the love "square" that is present in this book and the series. If you enjoy it, Shannon Messenger's newest book is coming out in November! I can assure you that you will not be able to put this book down once you pick it up.

4. Lovely War by Julie Berry (Historical Fiction / Romance)

If you love romance novels, this book is a must-read! It is filled with intertwined love stories that take place during World War II. Narrated by Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, you will learn that love and war aren't that different from each other. Sometimes love can come as a result of war and vice versa. Nevertheless, love will always overpower war despite challenging times. It starts out as the story of a young pianist and a soldier, and then morphs into the unexpected. Read this book to have your heart ripped in every direction!

5. Free Lunch by Rex Ogle (Autobiography)

Whenever I eat lunch, sometimes I don't realize that other kids don't have that same privilege. Free Lunch opened my eyes to the struggles some children have when all they think about is their next meal. Rex Ogle is embarrassed that he has to explain to the cashier every day at school that he is in the Free Lunch Program. Everyone else seems to be able to pay for their own lunches, so Rex feels like he is different than all of the other kids. This is a story about overcoming hardship and Rex struggling to fit in as he navigates sixth grade.
